Vascular Surgeries compromises of surgeries that involve the blood vessels that include the arteries and veins. The common vascular surgical presentations include surgeries that involve limbs usually.
Any arterial disease associated with limb ischaemia or aortic aneurysm involves complications and endures life-threatening events. However, venous diseases are less acute and can lead to significant morbidity in patients. Varicose veins and venous insufficiency are common issues that are observed in the older population in recent years. There is a significant development of vascular surgical innovations in India in recent years. However, with the establishment of the Vascular Society of India (VSI) and several other organizations, there is enormous demand among vascular surgeons, fellow medical specialists, interventionalists, nurses and allied professionals who collectively work for the sanctity and preservation of human life.
Vascular Surgery is a speciality that deals with vascular diseases. Vascular disease often deals with abdominal aneurysms and helps in dealing with strokes.
A Vascular Surgeon deals with vascular diseases and surgically addresses vascular trauma or redirects the blood vessels of patients with poor circulation which arise due to peripheral vascular diseases, diabetic conditions and stroke also.
Surgery used to be the main option chosen among vascular patients in earlier times. It involves experienced vascular surgeons and highly trained clinical and medical staff who perform a wide range of surgeries that allow the treatment of common and complex conditions. The Medical Council of India (MCI) allowed Vascular Surgery as an independent speciality over 20 years ago. A systemic, multi-pronged campaign is required to promote vascular surgery and the latest innovations in India.
Technological advances, achieved through biomedical engineering, have contributed to significant improvements in the field of vascular and endovascular surgery.
The introduction of robotics represented another major step forward for different surgical specialities, facilitating and improving the performance of minimally invasive surgery. Robot-assisted surgery has been brought into the area of vascular surgery to enhance laparoscopic vascular and endovascular skills such as a relatively difficult manipulation of instruments and long suturing times for anastomoses and clamping of the aorta or pelvic arteries.
Technological flow is constant and further advances in imaging techniques and hardware components will inevitably bring new tools for a clinical translation of innovative therapeutic strategies in vascular surgery.
MedPiper Technologies and JournoMed, in association with IMA Junior Doctors Network Kerala, Hospex are conducting a webinar titled “Exploring Innovations in Vascular Surgery in India.” The event will be held on 22nd November 2022, Tuesday at 8.00 pm.
