Understanding dentofacial deformities and treatment options

Dentofacial deformities, which include dental and maxillo-mandibular abnormalities, heavily impacts the quality of life by not only affecting the physical appearance but also compromising vital functions such as breathing, swallowing, chewing, speech articulation, and lip closure/posture.

Dentofacial deformity also includes malocclusion. It is defined as “an anomaly which causes disfigurement or which impedes function, and requires treatment if the disfigurement or functional defect was likely to be an obstacle to the patient’s physical or emotional well-being”. Studies show that the prevalence of malocclusion in the country varies from 19.6% to 90%.

Considering the gravity of the situation, MedPiper Technologies and JournoMed along with AOMSI Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Branch are conducting a webinar on “Understanding DentoFacial Deformities”. The event focuses on creating awareness about dentofacial deformities so that they can be detected at an early stage and treated accordingly.
