Simvastatin
Uses
The drug is prescribed to reduce bad cholesterol (LDL) and other fatty acid compounds (such as triglycerides) in the blood while increasing good cholesterol (HDL).
Additionally, it helps in preventing heart attacks, and strokes and lowers the chance of developing the cardiac illness.

Mechanism of action
Simvastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin). It functions by preventing the production of HMG-CoA-reductase, an enzyme needed by the body to create cholesterol. As a result, it reduces triglycerides and LDL cholesterol while increasing HDL cholesterol (HDL).
Adverse effects
Simvastatin’s side effects might include headaches, nausea, tiredness, constipation, weakness, lack of appetite and muscle pain.
Precautions
It is advisable to consult a doctor or physician before taking this medication.
- Avoid the usage of this medication, if the patient is allergic to this drug, or has any other allergies if the patient is on any other medication (i.e., prescribed, non-prescribed or usage of any herbal products) if the patient suffers from a hepatic disease, renal issues, thyroid disorder
- While taking this drug, avoid alcohol consumption as it leads to liver damage. Avoid the usage of this medication, if the patient has undergone any type of surgery i.e., dental or eye surgery. This medication has adverse effects on old people
- This medication is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
