The human life cycle begins at conception i.e. when a sperm and an egg fuses to form a zygote which then gets implanted onto the uterine wall. The zygote then goes on to divide continuously which forms an embryo. Various parts of the embryo then differentiate into their “designated” roles and form the different tissues and organs of the human body. The study of the development of the embryo into a foetus is called Embryology.

There are many reasons why a couple may find it difficult to conceive and have a child, with infertility being one of the contributing factors. Infertility refers to a set of disorders of the male or female reproductive systems and the cause of infertility is difficult to ascertain. It could include inadequate reproductive hormone levels, impaired sperm motility and sperm count in men and trouble with any of the reproductive organs and endocrine system in women.
Infertility affects millions of people of reproductive age worldwide – and has an impact on their families and communities. According to WHO, around 48 million couples and 186 million individuals live with infertility globally.
Fertility care encompasses the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infertility. Fertility care is very hard to obtain especially in low and middle-income countries. Treatments for infertility include various hormone supplements, fertility drugs and surgery. Assisted reproduction is also one possible therapeutic option and it uses various techniques to fertilise the egg.
The webinar will also focus on the various infertility treatments available in India and gain a better perspective about the process of reproduction.
