Digital healthcare has ushered into a new era. Physical health has formed a major chunk of the technological focus conventionally, but of late there has been a shift in the focus towards mental health as well. The shift in strategy is the need of the hour as the proportional contribution of mental disorders to the total disease burden in India has almost doubled since 1990, according to The Lancet.
MedPiper Technologies and JournoMed in association with the Indian Association of Private Psychiatry are organising a webinar to discuss the different ways in which digital health is transforming orient interaction in mental health.
The event will be held on 4th September, Saturday, 7.30 pm. Participants can join the event by registering for it here. E-Certificates will be provided to the participants. For more details, participants may contact Soumya T.S at firstname.lastname@example.org / 9080078447.
The session will be presided over by Dr Avinash Desousa, Consultant Psychiatrist, Founder Trustee, Desousa Foundation, Hon. Secretary-General Indian Association of Private Psychiatry. The event will be moderated by Dr Anu Kant Mital – President, Indian Association of Private Psychiatry.
The event will talk about the importance of mental health and the contribution of technology in overcoming the challenges. As far as mental health is concerned, accessibility is one of the major challenges.
Technological advancements like artificial intelligence have played a huge role in not only making mental healthcare accessible but also in reducing costs.
During this period of the COVID-19 pandemic, providing in-person mental health care service is challenging. Patients with mental disorders have difficulty in reaching the hospital and also in procuring medications. Hence there is a risk of relapse due to the non-availability of medications.
Also, there is an emergent need to address the vulnerable population at risk of developing mental disorders during the time of the pandemic. Telepsychiatry is well suited for the current scenario, in which mental health professionals can evaluate and manage the patients without exposing the service providers and patients to infection.
Telepsychiatry is the process of delivering mental health care services from a distance by mental health professionals using information and communication technologies. It can involve providing a range of services including psychiatric evaluations, therapy, patient education, and medication management.
The webinar will also guide professionals around the latest digital interventions in managing Mental Health Practice.
